A United States delegation is expected in Israel next month to work out concrete proposals for establishment of a much-delayed pilot project to apply nuclear energy to desalination, sources here reported today. An agreement for the project was signed during Premier Levi Eshkol’s meeting last year in Washington with President Johnson.

The principal obstacle to implementation of the agreement reportedly was the problem of money. Israel was understood to need a United States grant of around $60,000,000 plus a long term loan of about $150,000,000 to complete the pilot plant.
