Succot was a gloomy holy day today for members of Congregation Sons of Jacob here, whose synagogue was destroyed by fire of unknown origin yesterday. The fire broke out just before Succot evening services were to start.
Thanks to the cooperation of neighbors, many of them non-Jews, who joined Rabbi Moshe Kranzler in the effort, all of the Torah scrolls, prayerbooks and prayershawls in the synagogue were saved. Services are being held temporarily at a nearby motel.
