Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller was the guest of honor today at dedication ceremonies for the new synagogue building of the Garment Center Congregation, which serves the religious needs of Jews working in New York’s vast garment industry in midtown Manhattan.
Rabbi Zev Zahavy, spiritual leader of the congregation, and Rabbi Jacob Friedman, rabbi emeritus, officiated at the ceremonies. The new synagogue’s circular-shaped chapel seats more than 300 persons, nearly three times the capacity of its old quarters, which it occupied since its founding in 1931.
