Gov.-elect Buford Ellington has appointed Mrs. Leo H. Burson, of Nashville, to the post of Commissioner of the Department of Employment Security. She is believed to be the first Jew to be named to Tennessee’s State Cabinet.

Mrs. Burson and her husband are both long-time, ardent Zionists. Mrs. Burson is very active in Hadassah. She was a member of the Hadassah delegation that visited the Soviet Union recently and returned with a report deploring the persecutions suffered by the USSR Jewry in the religious and cultural fields.
