A group of 112 children of Florence families stricken in the mass floods which hit Italy arrived in Israel for a two to three week visit organized to help them forget the disaster.
The initiative for the idea came from the Rotary Club of Israel which provided most of the expenses of the visit and Alitalia, the Italian airline. Alitalia and El Al provided the air transport. Final details were arranged by Italian Rotary officials, Ambassador Ehud Avriel and the Youth Aliyah office in Italy. The children, aged 13 to 16, include both Jews and non-Jews.
They are being sent to various settlements, including Kfar Silver, Neot Mordechai, the kibbutz of Ambassador Avriel and others. They will also tour the country.
