British Jews Urge Brazil to Extradite Stangl; Ruling Expected This Week

The Board of Deputies of British Jews sent a letter today to the Brazilian Ambassador in London expressing the hope that the Brazilian Government would arrange for the extradition of Franz Stangl, the wartime commander of the Treblinka and Sobibor death camps.

Stangl has been under maximum security detention since his arrest in Sao Paulo on March 2, awaiting action by the Brazilian Supreme Court on appeals for his extradition from Austria, West Germany and Poland, The court is expected to rule this week on whether the Nazi is to be extradited.
