The colossal participation of Jews and non-Jews in the pro-Israel parade and in the subsequent mass meeting here on Sunday was lauded today in a statement issued by Dr. Joachim Prinz, chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, which arranged the demonstrations. The statement said:
“The tremendous outpouring of Jewish solidarity with Israel, as manifested in the great parade and rally Sunday, is a heartening demonstration that in this hour of crisis the American Jewish community speaks as one, united in its commitment to the security of Israel. The 45,000 persons who marched and 125,000 who participated in the mass meeting represented every segment of the Jewish community, joining hands in one mighty expression of brotherhood with the people of Israel as they struggle to maintain their national sovereignty and political independence against Arab aggression.
“We are heartened as well by the participation in the parade and rally of many thousands of non-Jews who added their own voice to ours in our call to the President to fulfill our government’s repeated pledges to protect Israel’s integrity as a nation. And we are encouraged by the forthright expressions of support of Israel’s cause by Senators Robert F. Kennedy and Jacob K. Javits in messages to the rally. We of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations pledge ourselves to use every resource at our command in order that the American Jewish community may make its solidarity with Israel known and its determination that our country — either in concert with other nations or alone — honor its obligations to Israel and enforce its commitment to the freedom of international waterways.”
