Progress Reported in Arab-jewish Rapprochement in Argentina

Download PDF for this date

Efforts to bring about a rapprochement between the Jewish and Arab communities in Argentina have been meeting with an encouraging degree of success, it was reported today.

In the city of Tucuman, leading physicians of Arab and Jewish descent signed a statement calling for peace and harmony in the Middle East between Israel and its Arab neighbors. A similar statement is now in preparation in Buenos Aires, to be signed by prominent Argentine Arab and Jewish personalities.

In San Rafael, in Mendoza province, during a patriotic ceremony, the mayor asked a leader of the Jewish community and a prominent Arab citizen to join together in raising the Argentine flag.

The Arab communities in Argentina have been subjected to a heavy anti-Jewish and anti-Israel propaganda barrage directed by the Arab legations and consulates here. Members of the Argentine Arab community were accused at various times of collaborating with the anti-Semitic Argentine neo-Nazi organizations.
