Two hundred and seventy East Jerusalem teachers who have not reported for work since the opening of the school term have been given until the end of this week to return to their classrooms or be considered to have vacated their jobs.
Of the East Jerusalem teachers who taught under Jordanian rule, only about 30 have returned to school. The rest have been replaced by substitutes, mainly Arabs who had taught in other Arab countries.
