The Jewish Theological Seminary of America announced today that it has purchased from Columbia University an entire square block of the upper West Side of Manhattan, part of which is now occupied by the Seminary and part of which will be used to expand its facilities. The purchase price was $2.3 million.

The property consists of apartment buildings which will continue to be used as dwellings under their old management and rental policies, the Seminary said. Two of the apartment buildings acquired by the Seminary in 1964 are slated for demolition to make way for a new Seminary library, classrooms and other facilities.
