Nine members of the El Fatah gang facing trial by military tribunals for attempting to blow up the Zion cinema in Jerusalem last October and other terrorist acts, learned today that it was their own leader who betrayed them to Israeli security authorities.
The Syrian-trained terrorist and sabotage ring was rounded up swiftly after the cinema-bombing attempt in what was hailed as an extraordinary piece of police work. But the Israeli authorities had been given the names of the gang members and told where to find them and their caches of weapons and explosives. The informant was the gang leader, known as “Dr. Nur,” who was picked up in a routine security check in Jerusalem and found to be in illegal possession of a revolver. He confessed all and will be brought to trial separately.
Seven members of the gang, including one woman, went before a military tribunal in Lydda today. The trial of two other members will begin next week.
