Paul Himmelfarb, Washington Communal Leader, Dead at Age of 90

Paul Himmelfarb, 90, a Jewish communal leader and philanthropist, died today. For his services as chairman of the advisory council of the Israel Bond Organization, Mr. Himmelfarb was, in 1963, made Washington’s Jewish “Man of the Year.” A former president of the Jewish Social Service Agency, he headed the Hebrew Free Loan Association for 35 years and was treasurer of the Washington United Jewish Appeal for 30 years. An 18,000-tree forest that he started in Israel bears his name.
