Canadian Jewish Congress Condemns ‘baseless Propaganda’ by Polish Regime

The Canadian Jewish Congress, in a statement today, denounced the “baseless propaganda by Polish politicians and the Polish press alleging that Jews or Zionists are instigators of the current unrest in Poland.” The statement, issued by Michael Garber, Congress president, said the campaign was “an outrageous calumny against a small Jewish community of 20,000 souls, a tiny remnant of the three million Jewish citizens of pre-war Poland, who were the victims of mass murder by the Nazi anti-Semites.”

Speaking for the Canadian Jewish Congress, Mr. Garber said “it is unthinkable that the Polish Government should permit the Jews to be exploited as a scapegoat for its present internal difficulties and fail to denounce this attempt to revive the traditional anti-Semitism of former reactionary forces in Poland.”
