Cries of “Hell Hitler” and the Nazi “Horst Wessel” song sounded outside a Roman Catholic church here this weekend where some 300 Spanish Nazi sympathizers attended a mass for Adolf Hitler on the 23rd anniversary of his death. The demonstrators were extreme right-wing Spaniards, including veterans of the Blue Division which fought alongside the Germans on the Russian front during World War II. The mass was arranged privately with no advance publicity. But members of the West German Embassy here, who learned that it would take place, asked the Spanish Foreign Ministry and Archbishopric of Madrid to prevent it from turning into a political demonstration. Such a demonstration, they pointed out, could have adverse effects on a visit here later this month by West German Chancellor Kurt Kiesinger.
