Melbourne May Guard Synagogues, Hit by Wave of Vandalism Twice Within Week

A spokesman for the Victoria Jewish Board of Deputies warned here today that the Jewish community may be forced to mount guards at its synagogues because of a wave of vandalism. The Carlton Hebrew Congregation here was broken into twice within a week. The latest act of vandalism caused an estimated $3,000 in damages. It occurred when the congregation had just finished cleaning up after an earlier break-in.

The executive vice president of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry. S.D. Einfeld. has been elected world vice president of the International Council of Voluntary Agencies, it was reported today from Sydney. Mr. Einfeld, a member of the Legislative Assembly, is the first Australian to be elected to an official position on the Council.
