LONDON (Aug. 5)
Many of the Asian students at the London School of Economics who signed a public appeal to all nations in the Middle East to settle their differences by peaceful methods have withdrawn their signatures “for personal reasons.” The statement, which urged negotiated agreements leading to a just and lasting peace “In accordance with the United Nations charter.” was published with 12 signers. Six were Indians, five were Pakistani and one was Ceylonese. Those who withdrew their signatures insisted they were “wholeheartedly in favor” of the statement. Leaders of African students at the school said they would issue a similar statement soon.
