The American Jewish Committee reported today that a “severe crisis” had shaken the Jewish Communist movement in France as a result of the anti-Semitic campaign in Poland. The information, contained in a report from the AJ Committee’s European office in Paris, said that for the first time, Jewish Communists in France are putting themselves “in open and unequivocal opposition to official Communist policies and actions in Eastern European countries.” The report said the crisis among French-Jewish Communists began as a result of Russia’s anti-Israel policies following the June, 1967 Six-Day War.
