Adolf von Thadden, National Democratic Party chairman said today he will run this year for election to the Bundestag, the West German lower house, and his party will spend $2.5 million to gain seats for its candidates. He also said that a general in the West German Army was a NPD member but declined to identify him. The West German Government is expected to consider Wednesday the question of seeking a ban on the party as anti-democratic, and may also consider abolishing the statute of limitations on Nazi war crimes which is slated to go into effect on Dec. 31. After that date, no new prosecutions for war crimes involving murder and crimes against humanity may be initiated.
In a related development, the Western Allies have turned down requests by West Berlin Mayor Klaus Schutz and the City Senate to outlaw the NPD in that city.
