LONDON (Jun. 2)
The Chief Rabbi of Rumania told the governing council of the World Jewish Congress today “the congress should revise its views and attitudes in relation to Jewish life in the Socialist republics.” Rabbi Moses Rosen said, “We live in changing times and we have to change our views and attitudes with them. The old notions sound very much like cliches today and would not do any longer.”
Rabbi Rosen reported on the situation in his own country, where, he said, Jews are enjoying complete religious freedom. The Rumanian Jewish community is maintaining a program, he said, of welfare for the aged and the infirm and for those in need for other reasons. The program is being maintained in cooperation with the American Joint Distribution Committee. The Government, Rabbi Rosen said, has shown full understanding for the needs of the religious Jewish communities in Rumania.
