$250,000 Chair in Enzymology Established at Weizmann Institute in Immigrant’s Name

A $250,000 chair in enzymology in the name of August Bauernfreund-Bauer will be established at the Weizmann Institute of Science at Rehovot, Israel, as the gift of his widow and son, John P. Bauer, it was announced by Dewey D. Stone, chairman of the board of governors of the Weizmann Institute. Mr. Bauernfreund-Bauer, who died in 1964, was a Bavarian food producer until he was forced to flee to France by the Nazis in 1933. In France, he organized a new food manufacturing organization but was again forced to abandon his company in 1940 with the Nazi invasion of France. Mr. Bauernfreund-Bauer came to the United States where in 1946 he formed another food concern. His son is a member of the Institute’s board of governors.
