A military official denied a Cairo claim that yesterday’s Israeli air strikes on Egyptian ground installations along the Suez Canal, the second since Sunday, struck civilian concentrations in Suez City and Port Tewfik, wounding six civilians. Army officers denied they were escalating the conflict with Egypt, with this week’s air attacks, the first since the 1967 war. The raids are “not a new phase, but a new tactic,” one said.
