Former President Lyndon B. Johnson has been named recipient of the 1969 American-Israel Friendship Award presented by the Mizrachi Women’s Organization of America, Mrs. Aaron Leifer, national president, announced today. The award is presented annually to public figures “not of the Jewish faith who have made distinguished contributions toward fostering friendship and understanding between the peoples of the United States and Israel.”
Mr. Johnson will be unable to attend the Mizrachi Women’s annual convention in Chicago Oct. 12-15, and the presentation will be made at the Johnson ranch in Johnson City, Texas. A film of the ceremony will be shown to the delegates at the Chicago convention.
Mrs. Leifer, in announcing the award, cited the former President’s “profound contributions towards constructing the edifice of American-Israel friendship.”
