The Board of Deputies of British Jews has asked the British government to use its influence to prevent a repetition of this week’s executions in Iraq and to prevail upon Iraqi authorities to permit the remaining Jews to leave that country. The plea was made by a delegation which visited Minister of State Goronwy Roberts in the Foreign Office. Mr. Roberts is substituting for vacationing Foreign Secretary Michael Stewart.
Humphrey Berkeley, chairman of the United Nations Association, wrote to the Foreign Secretary today expressing shock over the Baghdad executions. He said such acts only served to increase tensions in the area and the danger of another, more disastrous war in the Middle East.
