Jewish youth protested against the Iraqi executions and anti-Israel propaganda in a traffic-stopping demonstration outside Arab League headquarters here yesterday. They shouted anti-Nasser slogans, denounced Iraqi “barbarity” and sang Israel’s national anthem, Hatikva, but dispersed peacefully on orders from police. Three of the demonstrators who refused to leave were arrested.
An overflow crowd at the “Astral” theater attended a rally organized by the DAIA, the central representative body of Argentine Jewry, at which speakers warned that Arab propagandists were trying to arouse anti-Jewish sentiments in the guise of anti-Zionism. Dr. Sion Cohen, speaking on behalf of the Sephardic community, denounced the executions of 15 alleged spies for Israel in Baghdad last week. He said the Iraqi government has stated flatly that it is holding the Jewish community as hostages. The DAIA issued a statement urging world opinion to help avoid a repetition of the Baghdad hangings.
JEWISH ORGANIZATIONS TO CLOSE TODAY DURING MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR IRAQI JEWS
(Offices of Jewish organizations here will be closed Wednesday from noon to 2 P.M., in a demonstration of support for the interfaith mass memorial public service to be held at the United Nations headquarters for the Jews executed as spies by the Iraqi regime last month. The services are being organized by the Synagogue Council of America. They will be held in the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza at 47th Street, between First and Second Avenues.)
