Israel’s amphibious raid which destroyed Egyptian military positions along a 30 mile strip of coast on the Gulf of Suez last Tuesday was carried out with Russian-built tanks and armored vehicles captured from Egypt in the June, 1967 Six-Day War, according to an account in the current issue of Time magazine. Time said that only 150 Israeli soldiers and nine vehicles were employed in the operation. The Russian-made vehicles and the Egyptian type uniforms worn by the Israeli soldiers who spoke fluent Arabic achieved complete surprise, Time said.
