An Israeli soldier was killed and two others were wounded yesterday when a patrol clashed with Arab guerrillas north of the Dead .Sea. A third Israeli soldier was wounded when a mine exploded in the Jordan Valley yesterday afternoon. Israel denied a claim by Egypt that its anti-aircraft batteries downed three Israeli Sky hawk jets which were raiding Egyptian installations on the west shore of the Gulf of Suez on Friday. A military spokesman here said no planes were shot down but refused to confirm or deny that Israeli Jets had staged an attack.
Israel also denied a claim by the El Fatah command in Amman .that it staged a series of successful raids on Israeli territory Friday involving hundreds of men. A spokesman here denied that action took place but claimed that four Arabs were killed on Friday in a skirmish near the Dead Sea. Israel imposed tight restrictions on travel on 100,000 Arab residents of Hebron on Friday. Military Governor. Brig. Gen. Raphael Vardi, said the measures were taken following “recent increases in acts of sabotage and clashes with Israeli forces on Mt Hebron.”
The El Aksa mosque, severely damaged by fire on Aug. 21, was reopened for prayer on Friday. More than 2,000 Moslem worshippers from East Jerusalem and the West Bank attended the services.
