NEW YORK (Sep. 25)
The expansion of the Conservative Hebrew day school movement in the United States and Canada was reported today by Dr. Bernard Segal, executive director of the United Synagogue of America. Dr. Segal said that four new schools which opened this month in New York, New Jersey and Canada bring the total number to 33 schools in 22 communities. Total student enrollment is 5,500 and faculty consists of 410 instructors. Dr. Segal said.
All of the Conservative schools are affiliated with the Solomon Schechter Day School Association. The newest schools have been established at the Jackson Heights, N.Y. Jewish Center; the Conservative Synagogue of Riverdale, N.Y.; the Ahavah Sholom congregation in Lakewood, N.J.; and the Beth Tikvah congregation in Bayview, Ontario.
