Public School in Brazilian Province is Named for Late Prime Minister of Israel

The governor of Guanabara province has announced that a Rio public school will be named in honor of the late Prime Minister of Israel, Levi Eshkol. Rio is the provincial capital and Brazil’s largest city. Several other public schools there have been named for Jews or Israel. One is the Anne Frank School, another the Medinat (State of) Israel school. Three more have been named for Brazilian-Jewish industrialists and philanthropists. There are streets in the city named after Dr. Theodor Herzl, Dr. Chaim Weizmann,Dr. Ludwig Zamenhoff and former Prime Minister David Ben Gurion.
