Students at Tel Aviv University Vote 113-97 in Favor of Dr. Goldmann’s Views

Dr. Nahum Goldmann, the center of a bitter controversy in Israel over his aborted plan to meet with President Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt, received a vote of confidence from students at Tel Aviv University after speaking there last night. The vote was 113-97 in favor of Dr. Goldmann’s views on Middle East peace. Dr. Goldmann, president of the World Jewish Congress, reiterated his opinion that Israeli foreign policy was not sufficiently flexible and not realistic. He advised the government to drop its insistence on direct negotiations with the Arabs and to become more active in the pursuit of peace. Dr. Goldmann told the students, “The thought of another war robs me of sleep because the Russians would not allow another Arab defeat.”
