Four youngsters who came to Kibbutz Ashdot Yaacob to watch a film were injured last night when the Kibbutz was attacked by mortar shells fired from east of the Yarmoukh River. The four-three pupils of the Dimonah Secondary Schools on vacation in the Beisan Valley settlement and a member of a youth group in Ashdot Yaacob were watching the film in the Kibbutz as the shells started to explode. The siren was sounded and the screening was discontinued as all members of the settlement went into shelters. The youths, however, decided they wanted to watch the real life scenario and were injured from splinters of a shell. They were treated and returned to the camp. Only one needed hospitalization. Israeli airforce planes today attacked terrorist and Jordanian Army positions in the Jordanian area opposite Ashdot Yaacob from where mortar shells were fired last night. The Jordanian Army positions are those from where the terrorists received aid in carrying out their acts of sabotage. All planes returned safely.
Two more Israeli soldiers were killed along the canal within the last 24 hours–Lieutenant Moshe Kichel, 22, of the Ghetto-Fighter’s Kibbutz, and Sergeant Yochai Giveol, 23, of Kibbutz Givat Brenner. The third fatality, reported yesterday, was that of First Sergeant David Soffer of Kibbutz Damab. His funeral was this afternoon at the Kibbutz. An Israel civilian and an Israeli soldier were injured last night in renewed fire exchanges between Israelis and Egyptians along the Suez Canal.
