A Histadrut spokesman has promised that the trade union would continue its efforts to hold down prices despite the apparent failure of its first attempt to mobilize consumer action against rising prices. Histadrut called one-hour consumer boycotts last week in a section of Tel Aviv, in the new immigrant centers of Kiryat Gat and Beersheba and in the resort town of Herzliah out admitted that they were only partially successful. Most housewives were too busy shopping to pay much attention to the exhortations of Histadrut volunteers. The trade union federation said the consumer strike was not directed against goods that have increased in price because of higher taxes.
