The two week-old strike of high school teachers continued today after they rejected a personal appeal by Education Minister Yigal Allon to return to work while they negotiated their demands. The teachers said that Mr. Allon, who is also Deputy Premier, brought no new offers when he approached them yesterday. Mr. Allon was acting on Sunday’s cabinet decision to urge the teachers to return to their classrooms. The strike is for higher wages which the Education Ministry admits the teachers are entitled to but which the Treasury refuses to grant on grounds that it would worsen inflation. Meanwhile, thousands of Israeli high school students who had been enjoying the unscheduled holiday on the beaches of Tel Aviv and other seaside towns, began organizing for work in kibbutzim. But the strike has created problems for eighth graders who will have to postpone their matriculation examinations if it lasts much longer. For the time being they are getting daily lessons by television.
