S. Wise, chairman of the Defense Committee of The Association of Jewish ex-Servicemen and Women, said here yesterday that “during the past year, extremist groups in this country seemed to have avoided overt anti-Semitism.” Speaking at the national conference of the Association, Wise noted that this was due to the fact that “our defense machinery has continued to maintain a relentless vigilance.” He noted, however, that rising unemployment, increasing industrial unrest and the new “respectability of racialism,” present new dangers of social friction and “must be reviewed as disturbing factors in relation to the Jewish position.”
