Israel’s Ambassador to Washington, Gen. Yitzhak Rabin, arrived here today to be present during the visit of Secretary of State William P. Rogers who is expected in Israel on Thursday. Rabin told newsmen at the airport that he shared Rogers’ own stated view that no material results should be expected from the American diplomat’s current Mideast tour although he hoped for a change in the present situation. Asked if there was a chance for a partial agreement between Israel and Egypt to reopen the Suez Canal. Rabin replied, “We shall all be wiser after his (Rogers’) visit.” Rabin agreed that the positions of the U.S. and Egypt had drawn closer since January on some subjects but apart from that there has been no rapprochement. He will confer with Premier Golda Meir, Foreign Minister Abba Eban and other Cabinet ministers in preparation for the talks with Rogers.
