Rabbi Henry Siegman, executive vice-president of the Synagogue Council of America, said today that the statement issued yesterday by Henry Schwarzschild, a member of the Council’s Commission on Social Justice, criticizing the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith for giving the names of Jewish Defense League members to the FBI did not reflect the view of the Council or its Commission. In a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Rabbi Siegman said: "Henry Schwarzschild acted in his personal capacity. The action he took and the position he expressed have not been discussed by the Commission of Social Justice of the Synagogue Council of America and, therefore, does not reflect the position of the Synagogue Council. In fact, as far as the Synagogue Council is concerned, this is the first we have heard of the (Schwarzschild’s) statement."
