In response to widespread concern for information regarding Jews in Soviet Russia, the Baltimore Committee for Soviet Jewry has established a new telephone service to provide up-to-the-minute news 24 hours a day, Louis J. Fox, committee chairman announced. Called Soviet Jewry Newsline, the service will draw on all public information media as well as private sources available to the Baltimore committee. “We are making every effort to provide fast, reliable news on the trials as well as on local activities in support of the Jews of Russia,” Fox said. “Soviet Jewry Newsline, however, is planned as a long-range service for Baltimoreans, not merely as a telephone to be installed during emergency periods.” Mr. Fox emphasized. Barring a major shake-up, the Soviet government campaign of “cultural genocide against its Jewish citizens will continue after the present emergency,” Mr. Fox noted, “and our Baltimore committee is tooling up for a long-term operation.” Soviet Jewry Newsline may be reached by dialing 752-7827.
