Dr. Thomas W. Heath, New York State Coordinator for Nonpublic School Services, accompanied by a special task force from the State Education Department, met in a workshop session with Hebrew Day School representatives from the New York City Metropolitan area to inform the Day School Principals and Administrators of the details and guidelines of the new secular Educational Services Act recently passed by the State Legislature. According to Dr. Joseph Kaminetsky, national director of Torah Umesorah, which convened the meeting. Hebrew Day Schools in the State will receive some $2.1/4 million of the total $33 million package for all of the non-public schools. This means $27 per child annually for grades 1-8, high schools will receive $72 per each student. Schools with high concentrations of low-income family students will receive an additional $48.60 annually for each student.
