Spurred by recent demonstrations by slum dwellers, the Cabinet today took steps to solve the problem of squalid living conditions in Israel’s major cities and towns. It approved a five year national slum clearance program, the details of which will be announced in the Knesset tomorrow by Housing Minister Zeev Sharef. It also approved a preliminary announcement by the Ministry to designate the run-down Nahlaot quarter of Jerusalem a slum rehabilitation area.
