The first Jewish day camp program for children of Jewish military personnel outside continental United States will be conducted this summer on Okinawa, Chaplain Mark Shrager noted in a field report to the National Jewish Welfare Board. Offered to children 5 through 12 years of age, the day camp will include courses in Hebrew and the Jewish religion. The location of the camp will be at Yaka Beach Rest Center, located just north of Ishikawa City on Highway 13. Chaplain Shrager serves on JWB’s Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy. The JWB also announced the scheduled departure for Israel on July 11 of a group of Jewish teen-agers for a six week International Israeli Youth Festival, a project it sponsors in cooperation with the Israeli Education Ministry. The festival’s theme is “Jewish heroism.” the JWB said.
