Both houses of the Indiana General Assembly have passed resolutions urging President Nixon to “express his humanitarian concern and the concern of the people of Indiana, for the Jews of the Soviet Union,” when he meets with the Soviet leaders this May.
The resolutions note the restrictions placed on Soviet Jews wanting to learn and transmit their religion and culture, call attention to the imprisonment of Soviet Jews and mention the limitations on emigration to Israel. Among the four legislators co-sponsoring the resolutions were a Roman Catholic priest and a Black.
