The Knesset granted today another postponement of the chief rabbinate elections, but not without condemnation of the third such request this year. The Knesset approved the Cabinet’s agreement Sunday to put off the elections from Aug. 31 to Oct. 16. Religious Affairs Minister Zerach Warhaftig insisted today that it would be impossible, because of legal complications, to hold elections Aug. 31. The Knesset granted the six-week extension after accepting his contention that a recent court decision concerning the Electoral College had adversely affected the smooth organization of the voting process. But the chamber also said it was sure that this was not the last time an extension would be sought.
