Sen. Frank Church, the Idaho Democrat, is in Israel on a five-day visit partly to allay fears among Israeli officials about the possible effects on American-Israel relations if Sen. George McGovern, the Democratic candidate, should become President in November. Sen. Church, considered a close friend and confidant of Sen. McGovern, has been holding talks with Israeli leaders, including Premier Golda Meir.
Sen. Church is being accompanied on his visit by Myer Feldman, an advisor to the late President Kennedy. Feldman coordinated Jewish matters for the late President. Sen. Church and Feldman met yesterday with Finance Minister Pinhas Sapir. He also met with President Zalman Shazar and Avraham Harman, president of the Hebrew University. He has another meeting scheduled with Premier Meir and one with Deputy Premier Yigal Allon. Harman and the visiting Senator attended the Knesset debate on Soviet Jewry yesterday. Later, the Senator was a dinner guest at the home of Foreign Minister Abba Eban.
