Synagogue to Be Built at Lydda Airport, Says Peres

Lydda Airport will get a modern synagogue, opposite its terminal building, Transport Minister Shimon Peres said yesterday, The synagogue, which will cost about 250,000 pounds (about $60,000) will be financed by government and private contributions, he said. Planning for the structure has been started. Zerach Warhaftig, Religious Affairs Minister, initially proposed the idea. Thousands of the tourists from all parts of the world who visit Israel each year are Orthodox. The synagogue is expected to be a great boon for them, officials said.
