When the Israeli Army makes a mistake, the injured party receives an apology in writing. Such was the case of one soldier who was sentenced to 10 days in the brig for wearing sidelocks, according to the Army newspaper Bamachaneh. The soldier claimed he was religious. His commanding officer thought he was faking in order to evade regulations. After sentencing the man, it was discovered that he was Orthodox. The soldier was promptly released and got a letter of apology from the CO.
