Ten members of the Netherlands parliament, supporters of the government and opposition, expressed “disappointment” today over the official secrecy surrounding the recent release of Kibhi Khalum, a Palestinian member of El Fatah carrying an Algerian diplomatic passport who was arrested at Amsterdam airport with suitcases full of letter bombs and other lethal devices.

The parliamentarians said in a statement issued today they understood that details of the incident could not be disclosed but wanted to “avoid giving the impression that Dutch authorities yield easily to abuses of diplomatic immunity.” The legislators urged the government to support international measures to combat aerial hijacking and proposed breaking off air traffic with countries that refuse to adhere to international agreements against air piracy.
