William Landau, a vice-president of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, is leading a 35-member United Jewish Appeal study group which decided to start their mission with a stopover in Vienna “to see the place where Jews stop off on their way to Israel.” Only in the last few months have US missions included Vienna on their itineraries.
Landau, a 46-year-old Scarsdale business executive, accompanied by his wife, said the mission, comprised mainly of leaders from Westchester County and Long Island, expects to visit most parts of Israel by the end of the two-week visit. Members have been meeting various government officials, including an informal session with Absorption Minister Nathan Pealed.
