Rep. Edward I. Koch (D. NY) has asked the World Bank to cease financial aid to the government of Iraq until Iraqi Jews who wish to emigrate are allowed to do so and those remaining are free from discrimination. In a letter to the Bank’s president Robert McNamara, Koch protested the recent abduction, imprisonment, and harassment of Iraqi Jews. “There are many middle-aged and elderly people who have lost their jobs, their businesses have been boycotted, their assets frozen and their religious observances viewed as acts of sedition.” Koch stated.
