Warsaw Ghetto Revolt Commemorated

More than 1000 people attended a gathering to mark the 30th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto revolt. The meeting took place on Passover eve at the Choral Synagogue. In his address. Chief Rabbi Dr. Moses Rosen stated: “The events In Warsaw thirty years ago were of great momentum to the destiny of the Jewish people. Generations to come will derive inspiration from this heroic event.”

The choir of the synagogue presented a program of ghetto songs. The Journal of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Rumania, “Revista Cultului Mozaic,” dedicated a whole issue to the Warsaw Ghetto revolt.

The new Israeli Ambassador to Rumania, Yochanan Cohen, met with the leaders of Rumanian Jewry. During the meeting the chairman of the Federation of Jewish Communities, Rabbi Rosen, gave the Ambassador an outline on Jewish activities in Rumania, and the Ambassador replied that he was happy to meet Rumanian Jews and to learn of their experience.

The Israeli Army held its main seder at an armored corps’ headquarters on the Golan Heights Monday night. A young Army officer who “stole” the afikomen in the tradition of Jewish youngsters all over the world got as his reward for returning it a promise from Chief of Staff David Elazar to build an IL 100,000 gymnasium for soldiers on the Heights.
