Dr. Mordecai Hacohen, acting chairman of the Economic Advisory Council of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. submitted today a summary of the Council’s recommendations for consideration by the Prime Minister’s Economic Conference to be held in Jerusalem at the end of this month.
The 16-page document which was drafted by Dr. Deon H. Keyserling reflects the consensus of 23 outstanding American and Israeli economists who gathered last month at a symposium in Washington to discuss American-Israel trade relations.
In submitting the report to Max Ratner, president of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Hacohen stipulated that the report shall not be made public prior to its presentation at the Conference and stressed that the recommendations were designed solely to be of constructive assistance in the vital work of the Jerusalem meetings. Among the topics for intensive study and discussion are those dealing with the energy problem, ecology, productivity improvement, export enlargement, inflation and employment.
Dr. Hacohen also announced that Dr. Keyserling, former chairman of President Truman’s Council of Economic Advisors, will be the officially designated representative of the Chamber’s Economic Advisory Council to the Jerusalem conference.
The Economic Advisory Council of the Chamber and its first symposium were initiated by Dr. Hacohen, a political economist and assistant to the President of the American Bank & Trust Company in New York.
Israel’s Consul General in Chicago, Shaul Ramati, was honored with a 30,000-tree forest in his name near Jerusalem. The forest was a gift of the Jewish National Fund and the Jewish community of Chicago. A JNF study mission from Chicago and Ramati were present at the ceremony last week.
