Israel will shortly recognize the new junta in Chile, informed sources said here today. The junta has sent Israel–and presumably other countries–a formal note informing it of the change in government. Under accepted diplomatic procedure a reply to this note would mean in practice that Israel recognizes the new government. The Foreign Ministry intends to reply shortly. There is no need for formal recognition since the junta professes to be the continuation of the government in Chile.
